Volunteer Jobs

With the exception of our Assistants and Head Coaches, our Barracuda swim team is ran and operated 100% by PARENT VOLUNTEERS.

We do require every family to volunteer in some capacity over the course of the season. You will have the opportunity to select your job preference through the Job Signup for each meet on the website Calendar. It takes a lot of volunteers for each meet to run smoothly and efficiently. The team cannot function without YOU!

TENT MONITOR (Mother Hen)

Mark up swimmers' arms with their events. Line up Barracuda swimmers for each event and escort from team tent to the Clerk/s in heating area. 4-6 volunteers per meet.

HEATING CLERK

Using the heat sheet, line up all team swimmers on the waiting benches in the heating area, and move to the correct lane in the correct order as the meet progresses. This job is very important for having the meet run smoothly. 2 volunteers per meet/shift

TIMER

Timers use the Wylas electronic timing stopwatches to record swimmer times accurately. One Barracuda timer in each lane (5 or 6 depending on the pool), for each shift. Total timers 10 or 12 per meet.

STARTER

Works with Timers and Heating Clerks to start each individual heat using the electronic Wylas "gun". Requires attention to pacing and timing. Starters must attend at least one Judge clinic. One starter per meet

JUDGE

Judges observe a swimmer’s strokes, touches, and turns and write any infractions or errors on the DQ slip. Judges DO NOT determine if a swimmer is disqualified - judges merely write what they see.  All judges, new and returning, must attend at least one judge clinic. 3-4 Barracuda judges per meet per shift.

RUNNER

Runners collect the DQ slips from judges and deliver to the scorers or the Head Judge.

SCORER

At most pools this is an indoor (with A/C!) job. Monitor the computers to ensure the swimmer times are entered and make corrections/adjustments as needed. A short training on how to read the software is provided. You will be able to watch your swimmers’ events.

AWARDS

This is an indoor job at most pools and can accommodate a later shift start time. Place computer-printed stickers with swimmer’s name and time on the back of the corresponding placement ribbons and medals during the meet. You will be able to watch your swimmers’ events.

NOTE: Awards volunteers also assist with writing the Speeding Tickets after each meet. This can be done at home and completed within 2 days following the meet.

CONCESSIONS

Sell food & drinks during meets as well as help with setup and clean-up of food area.

SET UP & TEAR DOWN CREW

Transport swimmer tents and equipment to away meets and coordinate set up, preparation of swimmer area. At the end of the meet, supervise careful and proper breakdown of the tents and transport back to our home pool storage shed. Ideally have access to a truck.
